Cheese Tteokbokki Cup (Single Pack / 1 Cup) 🧀

For those not familiar with tteokbokki, it's not like pasta or noodles. They are chewy rice cakes, like mochi. I've had spicy ones from the grocery store so I thought I'd try this quick microwave cup for an easy thing to pack in my lunch. The directions are easy to follow. Take everything out of the cup, pour the rice cakes back in, sprinkle the cheese in, add the water, pop it in the microwave for two minutes. Simple as that. Now did it turn out looking like the product pictures? Of course not. But I didn't expect it to. A microwave cup and a cheese powder is not going to give you a gourmet meal. But the taste was fine and the texture didn't suffer from being microwaved. It's decent for what it is.

Okay I’ve never had rice cake things before but I’ve had the sauce: but never this cheese sauce. First I must say yes it’s a very processed food. But I love that cheese sauce!!! It’s so good. It’s better than boxed / instant Mac n cheese! Similar but just tastes better. It’s a nice cheese sauce that tastes like it has some herbs added in.

The texture of the rice cakes is interesting. It’s like gnocchi sort of in a way. And I have to say: please chew these with your mouth closed. I know cultural norms are different in these other countries that would eat this but seriously no one likes to watch you or hear you chew on these like a cow.
